Gilbert Arenas Pulled A Gun On Teammate In NBA Locker Room?

NBA Superstar Gilbert Arenas, also known as Agent Zero, made out more like some sort of secret agent in the Washington Wizards’ locker room about a week ago. Find out what the world the NBA is coming to after the jump.

I’m sure that Arenas is looking forward to putting 2009 behind him, as it has been a bad year to say the least.

First of all, it comes out that his fiancee and mother of his children was having an affair with fellow NBA star Shaquille O’Neal. Now it turns out that his broken heart is the very least of his problems.

Reports have it that Arenas pulled a gun on one of his teammates in the locker room. The story goes like this. Arenas owed a gambling debt to a teammate, one Javaris Crittendon. Crittendon inquired about payment and Arenas refused. Crittendon yelled, “I’m not your punk!” Immediately following this outburst, Arenas pulled a gun on Crittendon, who also drew a gun of his own.

Needless to say, the injury-prone Arenas now faces career jeopardy and legal action. The Washington Wizards have released a statement about the event in question that reads as follows:

“The Washington Wizards take this situation and the ongoing investigation very seriously. We are continuing to cooperate fully with the proper authorities and the NBA and will have no further comment at this time.”

Arenas admits to bringing three unloaded guns from his house to the locker room, explaining that he no longer wanted to store the firearms in his home because his small children live there. It is unclear whether or not the weapons brandished by either Arenas or Crittendon were loaded at the time of the incident. However, based on statements that he has made since the investigation began, he doesn’t seem to realize the severity of the situation.

“They’ve been (investigating) for the last two weeks,” Arenas said. “You guys just found out about it. They just want to know where I got them from. They want to make sure they’re not dirty guns.”

I think it’s safe to say that there’s more to the investigation than that.

Arenas will now face legal action from D.C. police, the federal government, and the NBA. It should also be noted that teams in the league can void a player’s contract if that player pleads guilty or is convicted of a felony. Along those same lines, players can have their contracts voided for committing acts of ‘moral turpitude,’ or acts which would bring shame to the organization.

Unfortunately, pulling a gun on a teammate in the locker room over a gambling debt of $25,000 – a mere fraction of Arenas’s yearly salary – seems to qualify.

At the very least, he faces a suspension from the team for a number of games. Depending on the legal proceedings and findings that may stem from this investigation, however, there is a lot more at stake.
