NyDailyNews.com: A Connecticut truck driver who was in trouble with his bosses opened fire on his co-workers Tuesday, killing at least eight people before shooting himself.

The gunman worked at a family-owned beer and wine wholesaler in Manchester, Conn., where a union official called him a “disciplinary problem.”

“The union was bringing him in to meet with the company,” Teamsters official John Hollis told the Hartford Courant. “He started shooting.”

The Associated Press reported that Omar Thornton, 34, was asked to resign and instead opened fire just before 7:30 a.m.

Hollis would not say why he was being called in, but NBC in Connecticut reported Thornton had been accused of stealing.

Among those shot was Bryan Cirigliano, 51, president of the Teamsters Local 1035 that represents drivers at the warehouse, Cirigliano’s brother told the Courant.

The number of dead and wounded was not immediately clear.

About 50 to 70 people were in the Hartford Distributors warehouse during a shift change, marketing director Brett Hollander said.

“We’re now just trying to figure out who’s shot, who’s not accounted for,” he said.

Hollander’s cousin, a vice president at the company, was among the wounded – shot in the arm and the face. The

Hollander family is known in the Hartford area for its philanthropy.

Anxious family members of the employees gathered at the nearby Manchester High School, waiting for word of their loved ones.

Connecticut Gov. Jodi Rell said, “We are all left asking the same questions: How could someone do this? Why did they do this?”
